Yuk;no way would I ever consider Vietnam. Even though we wrongly at war I have seen the mental and physical damages to so many I know.Go vist the War Memorial in DC. Sure we were at war with Germany,Italy and Japan. That was a justifiable war. Gee I wonder if they have a real Hanoi Hilton. Sure they are nice to us bucks flowing in. Just my opinion, there are other great places to vist. It is a free country .Spend your hard earned dollars there.

I traveled to Vietnam both before and after U.S. relations were re-established. The "coming" of Americans as tourists in mass did have a changing influence on the country. Yes, the shop keepers were not as quick to negotiate prices since so many Americans do what they do - O, its so cheap as it is, just give them the money. It seems Americans just don't get it; I've seen the same thing happen in China. Aside from that, I too fell in love with Vietnam and the people. They taught me a lot about the war. Yes, it is amazing how they can still love us; they taught me how to separate politics from the everyday people. The governments had a war and we the people, simply were sent out to fight. On my post the American's have come trip, I started to see the vast changes. On my first trip, no ball playing was allowed, there were no churches, loud speakers blasted communist doctrine morning & night in the villages, etc.. When I returned, yes, countryside disappeared in many places & many churches sprang up. People in small villages were clustered around computers in community centers playing games. It has been 10 years since my last trip and I am ready to go back.
