What we’re watching: George Clooney on FF miles, million-milers talk, notebook operating instructions

by Charlie Leocha on October 28, 2009

Enjoy these videos about a fictional frequent flier who is striving to reach a milestone more rare than walking on the moon. Then spend time with million-mile madmen who collect frequent flier miles as a hobby. Finally, our own Christopher Elliott provides lessons on how use a notebook, yes, a notebook.

The trailer from a movie, Up In the Air, about a very frequent flier scheduled to be released in December 2009.

Another clip follows.

Freqent flyer video
Here is an entertaining 20-minute video that provides a glimpse into the world of frequent flier madmen. They call it a hobby, but I find it an obsession. Then again, I might see the world differently if were a mileage millionaire.

You’ll be amazed at the number of frequent flier miles that have been issued as currency. Chris already posted this video, but I thought it is worth seeing for those who missed it the first time.

Christopher Elliott on using a notebook
No, our wizard of Web 2.0 is not speaking about a notebook computer. He is dealing with the old-fashioned paper kind of notebook that he always keeps handy.

I am a mileage junkie wanna-be. From when I joined United’s frequent flyer program in 1993 until about 3 years ago, I have accumulated only about 530,000 actual flight miles. I would like to have the money and time to make the mileage runs to build up my miles again.

As for Moleskine notebooks: I like them. I use the weekly diary run to keep track of what I need to do and have done; I use a small lined one to write my thoughts down while traveling.
