Virgin America expands with service to Philadelphia

Starting April 4, 2012, Virgin America will begin non-stop flight from LAX to Philadelphia and twice daily nonstop flights from San Francisco starting April 10.

Connecting flights will also be available from PHL to Virgin America’s San Diego, Seattle and Las Vegas destinations. “This is a great development for the entire Philadelphia region, including northern Delaware, southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania,” said Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter.

Cleared for takeoff: Rhode Island bakery creates TSA ‘compliant cupcake’

Inspired by the cupcake incident at McCarran International Airport, Kelly Colgan of Silver Spoon Bakery created a travel-friendly treat.

The $4 confection is topped with exactly 3 ounces of frosting and sold in a TSA-mandated clear, quart-size plastic blag. The decorative photo of Richard Nixon with the parodied words “I am not a gel” comes optional.

“We wanted to take a tongue-in-cheek look at what the ideal cupcake would be to be TSA compliant,” Colgan told the Los Angeles Times.

Slots go silent as downtown Vegas casino closes

The Western Casino in downtown Las Vegas has closed its doors.

Current owners Tamares Real Estate announced plans in November to close the Western and consider hiring its 90 displaced employees at other Tamares casinos including the recently renovated Plaza and the Las Vegas Club Hotel.

Funny that your SOPA strike doesn’t include emailed links. You can’t be half-pregnant.

But congrats on fixing your references to “Virgin American”; is your editor also on strike?

I think those e-mailed links are done automatically. I don’t know whether those can be suspended.
