Virgin America beat out the competition in Best Domestic Airline Food category. Southwest Airlines is pushed away by Frontier unions who want to keep seniority and keep Frontier brand. Delta is near final agreement with Atlanta airport for long-term lease.
And the award for best domestic airline food in the world goes to… Virgin America!
Readers of Travel + Leisure have voted Virgin America as having the best domestic airline food.
Food on Virgin America won not only because of the quality and assortment, but also because of the ease of ordering. Unlike some airlines, where you either need to wait for a flight attendant to push their cart down the aisle, Virgin America allows passengers to order what they want, when they want, through their Red in-flight entertainment system.
Republic overcomes Southwest’s Bid for Frontier
Seniority was among the during the talks between the pilots for Frontier and Southwest Wednesday night. Southwest’s union offered to place Frontier’s 700 pilots at the bottom of their pilot seniority master list. Ultimately, no union deal and a sweetened offer from Republic, meant no Southwest/Frontier hookup.
Republic Airways Holdings Inc. is set to acquire Denver-based discount carrier Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc. after Republic’s bid was selected over Southwest Airlines Co. at a bankruptcy-court auction Thursday.
The result represents a victory of David and Goliath proportions for Indianapolis-based Republic, a holding company for regional airlines that is about a 10th the size of Dallas-based Southwest, the country’s dominant low-fare carrier measured by revenue.
The win comes after Republic agreed to sweeten its offer for Frontier and Southwest was unable to secure quick union approval from pilots for the proposed tie-up.
Delta said to near Atlanta lease, airport bond sale
Delta Airlines and the Atlanta airport are coming close to a lease agreement. The deal will pave a way for an $800 million bond sale.
The debt will pay for a new international terminal at the world’s busiest airport, which is in talks with Atlanta-based Delta and other airlines as their leases expire after 30 years. A lease accord may come this month, clearing a path for the bonds, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.
