Exclusive: US Air, AMR deal could come in next two weeks 

Sources say that AMR Corp and US Airways Group are in the final stages of negotiating a merger.

The two airlines, as well as AMR’s creditors and its bondholders, have focused their efforts in recent weeks on reaching a merger agreement, and a deal could come in the next two weeks, the people said on Friday.

Boeing battery solution may keep 787 grounded until 2014

A battery expert and chemist at MIT has a suggestion on how Boeing can solve its battery problems.

The problems with Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, which was grounded earlier this month by Federal Aviation Administration order, could be solved by switching from the current lithium-ion batteries to nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries, Donald Sadoway told Forbes. However, switching to NiMH batteries, which have a better safety track record, could result in a lengthy certification process that could take up to a year to complete, Forbes reports.

Air France will be launching a new regional airline called ‘HOP!’

A result of the synergy between the Air France group’s three regional airlines – Brit Air, Regional and Airlinair – HOP! aims to become the reference airline on inter-regional routes in France and Europe with a competitive offer, quickly adaptable to market changes and competition, for business or leisure travel.
