UK border guards call off pre-games strike

UK immigration officials who threatened a 24-hour strike have called off their action on Wednesday.

Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), told reporters progress had been made in talks with ministers over looming job cuts.

The planned strike on Thursday, the day before the opening of the Games, had been roundly condemned by the government.

Court dismisses challenge to airline advertising rules

A Washington, D.C., appeals court ruled that the Department of Transportation can regulate the advertising of airline tickets prices.

A petition for a review of the regulations had been filed by Southwest, Spirit and Allegiant airlines after the companies received fines from the transportation department.

The U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit said Tuesday that the rules the fines were levied under were valid, however.
