United, Continental, ANA seek US antitrust waiver

United Airlines, Continental Airlines and All Nippon Airways are seeking an antitrust waiver so they can coordinate flights with each other.

In a statement, the airlines said they filed an application with the US Department of Transportation seeking antitrust immunity in an effort to “compete more effectively” with other global airline alliances.

ANA, Continental and United are members of the Star Alliance.

Immunity permits carriers to share pricing, scheduling and other information on specific routes and has become a substitute for mergers in recent years.

Is your hotel room really clean?

When you check into a hotel, the last thing you want to worry about is having an unclean room. However, some rooms, even the pricier ones, may not be as clean as you expect it to be.

The fact that hotel cleanliness is so rare does not mean you should settle for anything less than hygienic. Asking a few important questions in advance of a hotel stay can help weed out the most disgusting rooms. Further, taking a few steps of your own to protect your health while in a hotel room can go a long way toward making you, and your room, a lot cleaner.
