Southwest Airlines coming to Memphis
Southwest Airlines said that it will take over AirTran’s facilities in Memphis.
A date for the switch has not been announced.
AirTran is owned by Southwest Airlines and all 22 domestic and international airports will transition to Southwest operations over time.
LaHood says he’ll leave at end of Obama’s term
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said that he will leave at the end of President Obama’s current term.
LaHood, 65, indicated his intention to leave the cabinet at a media luncheon, but gave no reason for his decision, spokeswoman Jill Zuckman said. He hasn’t yet discussed his intentions with President Barack Obama, she said.
US Airways said to be making offer to buy or merge with American Airlines; industry is changing
US Airways is said to be putting together an offer to either merge with or buy American Airlines, despite the fact that AA said they would like to stay on their own.
American Airlines recently filed for bankruptcy to restructure and cut costs in an effort to stop hemorrhaging money. While an offer from U.S. Airways to buy or merge with American Airlines is still 6 months down the road at the earliest, a source we talked to, who was not authorized to speak, said the airline has already put together an provisional offer and is prepared to modify it as the situation develops.
