
Southwest searches for deals after loss of Frontier
Despite losing its bid for Frontier Airlines to Republic Holdings, Southwest said that it’s not done looking to acquire another airline.
Gary Kelly, Southwest’s chairman and chief executive, said his airline may take another run at an acquisition.
“Even Tiger Woods doesn’t win every tournament,” Mr. Kelly, who has been Southwest’s CEO since 2004, said of the loss of Frontier in an interview.
Discount airline Virgin America eyes Vancouver
So far, none of the low-cost carriers are flying to Vancouver. Virgin America wants to change all that.
Virgin America Inc., a low-fare California-based discount carrier partly owned by U.K. billionaire Richard Branson, has announced it’s studying whether to fly to Toronto and Vancouver, as well as several new U.S. destinations.
For its part, YVR would welcome two-year-old Virgin America.
Former Four Seasons property will become a Sandals resort
Sandals resort has recently purchased the shuttered Four Seasons Resort on on Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas.
Sandals Chairman Butch Stewart has purchased the recently-shuttered Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma at Emerald Bay. The 500-acre resort will re-emerge as the Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas on Jan. 22.
“We will start taking reservations in two weeks,” Stewart said. “This resort is in pristine condition, and I have nothing but praise for Four Seasons, which ran a magnificent operation here. We are acquiring one of the most spectacular pieces of real estate in the Caribbean operated by one of the world’s most respected hotel companies.”
