QANTAS flight forced to make emergency landing

A Qantas flight enroute from Darwin to Brisbane was forced to make an emergency landing when the crew smelled fumes onboard.

Flight QF 825 landed without incident but it took emergency crew more than an hour to evacuate passengers from the grounded plane.

Passenger Cliff Watkins from Darwin said passengers were informed they would have to remain on board the aircraft because there were no stairs tall enough to reach the cabin door at [Mount Isa regional] airport.

Hotel in Vancouver, Canada, puts a new spin on in-room iPads

The OPUS Hotel in Vancouver, BC is putting iPads in their hotel rooms so guests can use it as their personal tour guide.

While the trend of adding tablets to hotel rooms is not a new concept, the OPUS adds a new spin by having the technology reflect the guests’ personality and show them around the city.

Why the Olympics could be bad for London tourism

Olympic organizers “needlessly” reserved thousands of hotel nights, which caused the hotels to raise prices. This, in turn, drove tourists to other cities and countries and could cost the city billions.

“Prices have been so high that tourists are moving elsewhere. Overseas wholesalers who traditionally push London have switched to other cities this year,” said Neil Wootton of Premium Tours. “If the Parisian and Italian hoteliers do their job then the tours may never return to London.”

Oh, please.  The prices will go back down and people will come back to London when the Olympics move on.  There are things you can only see in Paris, there are things you can only see in Venice or Rome or Florence, and there are things you can only see in London.

Yesw, but the fees at Heathrow will keep tourists away.

Isn’t that a BAA thing?  Are they raising fees for flights occurring in, say, June through August?  Otherwise, I don’t understand how Heathrow (or Gatwick) fees will be impacted by the Olympics.

Unless Heathrow is tacking on a fee for that temporary terminal, of course.  I would think would be specific for that terminal, but who the hell knows if logic enters into any airport authority decision
