Friday the 13th: a lucky day for booking a hotel reservation

If you’re looking to book a hotel, wait until Friday, November 13 because hotels.com is discounting a lot of their hotels.

Pick from about 200 properties, including locations in Mexico, Argentina, and the Caribbean. The Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago is going for $89/night (instead of $199), and so is the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco (instead of $170).

Details can be found here.

TSA tells airport screeners to stick to weapons and explosives

The American Civil Liberties Union has dropped its lawsuit against the TSA now that it has told its screeners “they can only investigate transportation-related issues, barring them from seeking evidence of crimes unrelated to air safety.”

The ACLU sued TSA this summer, accusing airport screeners of overstepping their authority by searching and questioning travelers about potential crimes that had nothing to do with carrying weapons or explosives onto airplanes, which is the specific role defined for TSA.

American and Delta vie for JAL partnership

American and Delta are vying to keep JAL in their respective alliances.

For American, which is seeking to keep JAL in the Oneworld alliance, the stakes are especially high. The carrier is working to improve its competitive positions against Delta and United Airlines — both US powerhouses on Asian routes.

Delta, meanwhile, hopes to lure JAL out of Oneworld and into its SkyTeam group. A tie-up with JAL could give Delta a major boost after buying Northwest last year, and would allow the world’s largest carrier greater access to nations in Asia that depend on air travel.
