What’s happening in Las Vegas

In order to entice more visitors to Las Vegas, several casinos are offering bargains and incentives.

All-day buffets: Three more casinos have joined Excalibur in offering day passes to their buffets. At MGM Grand, you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner for $29.99 weekdays and $39.99 on weekends. At Stratosphere, it’s unlimited access for $19.99 every day except Friday, when it’s $24.99. And at Luxor, it’s $35 and includes wine and beer.

19ers: Downtown’s Golden Gate has been running a consistent $19-per- night room rate, even on weekends. The rooms are smallish, but recently renovated, making this a great bargain play. The casino also serves great food, including the city’s best shrimp cocktail for 99¢.

Stay 7 nights, pay for 4 nights at Ritz-Carlton this summer

To entice customers to stay at their hotels, the Ritz-Carlton is offering the Peace of Mind promotion. This means that the more nights you stay, the more free nights you get.

Stay three nights and pay for two. Or stay five nights and pay for three. Or stay seven nights and pay for four. Turns out, if you stay seven nights, you end up saving about 43 percent.

Southwest Airlines’ rapping flight attendant takes on GAAP

You’ve all seen David Holmes, the Southwest Airlines rapping flight attendant. Recently, CEO Gary Kelly invited Holmes to the Investor’s meeting to discuss, in his own way, the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in a “non-legalese” fashion.
