JAL to seek more than $550 million from Delta, Air France

Struggling Japan Airlines is seeking an infusion of $550 million from Delta as well as several billion Yen from Air France-KLM.

A source familiar with JAL’s plans said Friday Delta, the world’s largest carrier, was in talks to take a minority stake in the struggling Japanese carrier as it seeks to expand its international footprint.


US bound flight grounded after “prank” September 11th bomb threat

A 21-year old electricians apprentice from Brisbane, Australia was ordered to pay a $1,300 fine and two years probation because he thought it would be ” fun to announce to fellow passengers that he had a bomb in his possession.”

When the plane was still on the ground in Brisbane, he made the threat using the seatback entertainment system chat room. One passenger then alerted the crew, and the captain decided to have the passenger removed from his plane.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air offer ‘mystery discounts’

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Airlines announced Sunday that both carriers will be offering discounts off fares to new destinations each day for the next three days starting 12:01 am September 14.

“We’re offering incredible daily discounts for three days so our customers can plan a fall getaway at a really great price,” said Steve Jarvis, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience. “We encourage customers to log on to alaskaair.com to check out which new destinations will be highlighted each day.”

Walt Disney World makeover: Magic Kingdom getting new Fantasyland with Little Mermaid ride

Walt Disney World’s Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom will get a facelift. The resort is calling it “the biggest overhaul in the theme park’s 38-year history.”

Plans revealed Saturday call for adding a lavish ride based on The Little Mermaid, expanding a popular Dumbo children’s attraction, new interactive areas featuring some of Disney’s best-known princesses, and more.

In addition, Disney said it plans to update Star Tours, the Star Wars-themed simulator ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with new 3-D effects.
