FedEx Express remains in black despite difficult year
With all the talk of airlines losing money in this recession, one company is making a profit, although lower than last year.
FedEx Express, the shipping giant’s airline segment, finished its fiscal year ended May 31 with a $794 million operating profit, down 58% from the $1.9 billion reported in 2007-08, while the company suffered a 91% plunge in consolidated profit to $98 million.
US Airways flight narrowly misses truck
A US Airways taking off from Boston Logan narrowly missed a truck that was on the runway.
A construction truck crossed a runway at one of the nation’s busiest airports Thursday just before a plane with 89 people aboard took off behind it.
The truck crossed the runway just before Phoenix-bound US Airways Flight 27, an Airbus A320 with 84 passengers and a crew of five, took off at about 6:30 a.m. The plane and the truck were “a matter of seconds” from colliding, Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella said.
Jet America does the impossible: sells 20,000 tickets in first week
With its advertised rates starting at $9 each way, it seems that everyone is purchasing tickets on Jet America, a new low cost carrier.
Our people in Toledo, Jet America’s soon-to-be hub city, called in to report that the local news is boasting of Jet America’s ticket sales: 12,000 tickets sold in the first 48 hours after their website launched, a number that was expected to reach 20,000+ by the end of that first week.
Of course, blogger David Parker Brown brings up an interesting point:
How is it so many people who are connected with this industry have such fears that this airline doesn’t exist?
I would feel A LOT better if they had a picture of a REAL plane and not computer generated.
