Continental Airlines newest money making scheme: paid exit row seating
The next time you fly Continental Airlines and you want an exit row seat, you’ll have to pay a little extra.
On March 17th, passengers in coach can add 7 inches of legroom by purchasing an exit row seat up to 24 hours before their flight.
Prices for a little extra legroom are pretty steep – USA Today quotes a $59 fee for a flight from Newark to Houston.
US airports expand full-body screening
Full-body screening machines will be rolled out to more airports in the US including Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Three to be activated Monday at Boston’s Logan Airport will be the first of 150 the US Department of Homeland Security officials hope to deploy in the next few months using funds from last year’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the stimulus.
The agency aims to have 450 advanced scanners at airports by the end of the year.
JetBlue wants JFK exemption from new tarmac-delay rule
JetBlue has requested an exemption from the tarmac-delay rule while one of the runways at JFK is out of commission.
On March 1, Kennedy’s main runway closed for about four months of maintenance work and upgrades.
“JetBlue has already taken several steps to minimize the impact of this closure on its JFK operations, including a voluntary and significant reduction in planned flight operations and implementing guidelines for passenger comfort and convenience in such situations that are more stringent than current law,” JetBlue said in a March 4 request to the DOT.
