
Brussels Airlines joins Star Alliance, offers key hub in hostile territory
Brussels Airlines announced that it has joined Star Alliance, a year after it was invited and after a strategic partnership with Lufthansa.
Since its inception, Star carriers have been flying to Brussels but from today on we can start developing the airport as a hub,” Star CEO Jaan Albrecht said. With the addition of Brussels Airlines, the Star Alliance network covers 1,077 destinations in 175 countries including four new destinations in Africa: Bujumbura, Conakry, Kigali and Monrovia.

China Eastern promises that it will make its decision on which alliance to join by February 14, the start of the Chinese New Year.
SkyTeam continues to be the favorite, which likely would lead to Shanghai Airlines’ withdrawal from Star Alliance. CEA’s acquisition of SAL received final approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission last month (ATWOnline, Dec. 1).

Palazzo Resort in Las Vegas unveiled its Winter Wonderland display, ushering in the holiday season.
The Arctic themed display features a 16-foot tall mother and 6-foot tall baby polar bear made using approximately 10,000 white poinsettias and surrounded by other elements such as silver tip pine trees; oversized pine cones, holiday berries, lights; a sea of cranberries and snow falling over the “Polar Bears.”
