Avis cool car collection welcomes legendary Chevrolet Camaro to the streets

Avis Rent a Car System LLC will soon add the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro to its “cool car” collection. The collection contains “a series of popular vehicles that can be reserved by specific make and model.”

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is available with automatic transmission.

Renters can choose from the Camaro LT that features a 304-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine or the Camaro SS with a 426-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine and rear spoiler. The vehicles are available at select Avis airport locations in the United States.

The Camaro joins other cars such as the Corvette, Cadillac CTS, Ford Mustang and the Prius.

Lufthansa gets green light on bmi, Brussels acquisitions

The European Commission has given Lufthansa the go ahead to acquire bmi and Brussels Airlines.

The EC opened an investigation of the LH/SN deal in January, arguing that the combined carrier “could significantly impede effective competition,” particularly on routes from Belgium to Germany and Switzerland. To address those concerns, Lufthansa offered slots allowing new entrants to operate flights from Brussels to Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Zurich. Any new entrant will obtain grandfathering rights over the relevant slots once it has operated a route for a predetermined period.

Republic takes over Frontier for $108.8 million

Republic Airways Holdings said on Monday that it’s offering to buy Frontier Airlines for $108.8 million. The move will also take Frontier out of bankruptcy.

The plan calls for Republic to own all the equity in the newly reorganized Frontier. Republic operates a regional airline under its own name as well as Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America. Denver-based Frontier, known for its planes with animals painted on the tails, flies from Denver to points around the U.S.

Republic also just announced a takeover of Midwest Airlines.

Republic Airways said Tuesday it would buy Midwest Airlines from private equity group TPG Capital for USD$6 million in cash and a USD$25 million note. In addition to getting all of Midwest’s equity, Republic will receive TPG’s USD$31 million secured note.
