US airlines raise fares twice in two weeks

According to flight comparison Web site FareCompare, airlines are raising fares again, the second time in two weeks. This could be a sign that fares are nearing the bottom.

Delta Air Lines raised rates by between $10 and $20 for round-trip flights, FareCompare data showed, and Continental Airlines also raised rates, which it began to do Wednesday night.

The carriers joined American Airlines and United Airlines, which both boosted fares for US routes on Wednesday. US Airways is expected to bring up fares by Thursday, FareCompare said.

Qantas Defers Some, Cancels Other 787 Orders

In another blow to the Boeing Dreamliner project, Qantas has decided to cancel some orders and defer others.

The airline said it delayed by four years delivery of 15 Boeing 787-8 aircraft and canceled orders for 15 787-9 aircraft that were scheduled for delivery in 2014-15.

Michelin won’t be publishing 2010 guides for LA or Las Vegas

Because of the economic environment, Michelin won’t be publishing a 2010 guide for Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

The move represents a step back for the Michelin guide, published by the French tire company, which had been expanding the number of cities it covered in an attempt to become the preeminent arbiter of global dining.
