Air New Zealand staff strip for racy new advertisement

Air New Zealand staffers stripped for a new advertisement with nothing but body paint.

More than 90 Air New Zealand staff members are featured in the cheeky campaign, with eight donning only body paint. Chief Executive Rob Fyfe also took part in the ad, and was crowned New Zealand’s sexiest businessman as a result.

In the advertisement passengers are shown smiling knowingly and looking shocked at the body-painted staff, while a song appropriately titled “Under my skin”, by New Zealand singer Gin Wigmore, plays.

Airline on-time performance dips in March

In March, 19 of the largest airlines in the country reported an improved on-time arrival rate compared to last year, although it was worse than earlier this year.

The airlines industry’s on-time arrival rate in March was 78.4%. That’s up from 71.6% in March 2008, according to the Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics, but couldn’t top February’s 82.6%. Flights are considered on time if they arrive within 15 minutes of schedule.

U.S. won’t auction N.Y. airport slots

Following a strong backlash from airlines and industry groups, the US Department of Transportation is cancelling its proposal to auction slots at New York’s airports.

The auctions were part of a plan to reduce congestion at New York’s three major airports. Airlines were to bid for take-off and landing times. But because of lawsuits and a court-ordered stay, the auctions hadn’t started.

[Transportation Secretary] Mr. [Roy] LaHood said the auction plan was dropped because “the rulemaking was highly controversial” and other changes, such as the deteriorating economy, have made the plan less vital. Congestion has eased somewhat at airports around the country as airlines reduce flights and fewer passengers fly in the recession.
