AirAsia X stops Europe flights over taxes, Eurozone woes

Air Asia X will suspend service to the UK and France starting March 31 due to Europe’s Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and other fees.

The Malaysia-based airline serves London Gatwick six times a week and Paris Orly four times a week. D7 will also suspend its four weekly services to Mumbai and daily New Delhi service. The changes are part of a restructure to move operations from loss-making routes to focus on more profitable regional routes.

Potential suitors circle American Airlines

US Airways, Delta Airlines, and TPG Capital are among those that are interested in potential bids for AMR.

These parties have been following AMR’s bankruptcy proceedings closely to evaluate prospects for a merger or tie-up with American Airlines, the sources said.

The sources and airline experts, however, cautioned that any deal is unlikely to happen before AMR is close to completing its court restructuring, which could take a year or longer.
