Union members of American Airlines and US Airways met with members of Congress to make the case for the merger.
The two-day event culminated in an employee rally on Capitol Hill, which was attended by members of Congress and the leaders of unions who demonstrated their support for the combination.
Laura Glading, President, Association of Professional Flight Attendants, American Airlines, stated: “The DOJ’s lawsuit to block the merger jeopardizes the futures of our members and all of the hard-working aviation professionals at American and US Airways.”
Risk of flight delays returns as FAA weighs controller furloughs
The FAA is again considering whether to furlough air traffic controllers because of a funding shortfall during the next fiscal year.
FAA officials have told aviation industry officials and lawmakers that a new round of furloughs will be needed to close a budget gap of as much as $700 million in the fiscal year starting Oct. 1, four people briefed by agency leaders said. They asked not to be named because the meetings were private.
