What we’re reading: Budget bus site, Dreamliner almost ready to fly, PetAirways set to take off

by Steve Surjaputra on April 24, 2009

BusJunction offers comprehensive one-stop shopping for budget bus lines

A new site, BusJunction.com, offers “easy to use booking tools for 12 different bus lines (Megabus, Bolt, Vamoose, DC2NY, Greyhound, Trailways, Peter Pan, Lakefront, Fung Wah, Lucky Star, Eastern Travel and New Century).”

The site tells you which lines depart from your city, and to which destinations. You can link directly to the booking page of the bus service, get maps of the terminal location and even find which services are available on the bus (like Wi-Fi and power outlets).

After delays and fixes, Dreamliner almost ready to roll

Within one week, the first of the new 787 will be rolling onto Paine Field for its first flight test.

Unlike the first rollout, after which the jet was unceremoniously rolled back in so that major pieces of the airframe could be dismantled to fix embarrassing assembly flaws, the innovative airplane should fly within a couple of months.

Ground tests required before the jet can fly are progressing well.

Pet Airways Aims for a July Takeoff
Pet Airways, the pet transportation service will begin flying to five cities on July 14, company officials say.

Just for the record, Pet Airways isn’t technically an airline; it doesn’t have its own operating certificate from the FAA. The outfit will essentially be selling spots on flights operated by a company called Suburban Air Freight, based in Omaha, Neb. The animals will be transported on Beechcraft 1900s. Suburban Air already has all the certificates it needs to transport the animals, an FAA spokeswoman says. “Everything’s good,” said Elizabeth Cory, an FAA spokeswoman. “No additional certificate is needed.”
