I had a set of "thumb cuffs" confiscated in Ottawa by Canadian Air Transport Security - I wasn't even offered the option of putting them in my checked bags. I was really early for my flight and was able to take my house keys (attached) and stow them in my vehicle while I was on vacation. If anyone is unfamiliar with these they are very small replica handcuffs made only large enough to fit around most people's thumbs (a one-inch diameter max). I was told they were "a restraint device" and thus not allowed. Ah... I'm supposed to be able to restain someone with these? Are you joking?

So if security ties you up for an hour and you miss your flight, do you get to standby on the next one?
