One airline that isn't pulling any stunts but is an incredible buy because of its current promotions is https://www.flyopenskies.com/os/home

The Prems+ cabin is akin to most airline's business classes and the personnel DOES have an attitude. They want the client to be happy and the passenger is right.

Additionally, these stunts were pretty common in the 80's when the industry had close to a hundred start up airlines. Auctions, raffles, chances to win free vacations, etc. Domestically, these stunts pretty much disappeared when most of these start ups went under in the 90's.
Ryanair also used these stunts. IE. One pound fares.

Jetblue and Virgin American are relatively new airlines. These campaigns do exactly what they are intended to do. Create buzz and visibility for these carriers.

Good observation, Karen. these stunts have made a comeback as trendy, new airlines enter the market.

The troubled airline industry is adopting a new tactic for bringing in new business: publicity stunts.
====================================================

Not "new" at all. New York Air began the shuttle service in the 1980's. To get the word out to the flying public, it offered "dollar" fares as a promotion. A HUGE turn out happened along with media coverage. This "stunt" paid for itself in free advertising!
