I fly AA often and notice they support service people in many ways. Use of Admiral's Club if they show travel papers, letting them sit in F if there's room, and acknowledging them for their service on the taxi-in announcements. I haven't noticed similar support on other carriers.

I'm glad this worked out for Ms. Southworth but she shouldn't have had to call on you for help. I sure would like to know how United explains why the ticket was shown as used.

Was there an explanation as to why UA showed the ticket used? Did they refund as a good will gesture because her husband was in Iraq and they had a new baby?

Sometimes I think the airlines (as well as many others) assume that sooner or later people will give up and accept the loss when they get nowhere with a dispute.
