Southwest repairs 4 planes

by Jon Surmacz on March 14, 2008

Four down, 39 ready to go? Southwest Airlines said it was repairing cracks on four of the planes it had grounded earlier this week. The planes are expected to be ready to fly again this weekend. The Associated Press reports that Southwest canceled about 4% of its flights Wednesday after deciding to perform new inspections on 43 Boeing jets, including 38 that had been carrying passengers Tuesday. Most of those planes, 34 to be exact, had returned to service by Thursday, according to a spokesperson. Christopher Elliott has a first-person account of flying on Southwest in the wake of this controversy.
