SAFETY should never be a competitive issue. Many years ago, the 9 hours and 15 minutes BETWEEN FLIGHTS (the shortest rest period for crewmembers) used to be an infrequent event. Now? It's not uncommon to have a crew arrive late at a hotel layover and leave, bright an early the next morning. BARELY GETTING SIX HOURS SLEEP.
I've literally walked onto an aircraft the next morning after a short night sleep and still felt exhausted. And, people wonder why we dont smile all day long.
