A nightclub. An ice bar. A bowling alley. No, these aren’t coming to a new five-star resort — they’re going out to sea. Norwegian Cruise Lines is including them in its new F3 megaships.
“There is nothing ordinary about these ships,” says Colin Veitch, NCL’s president and chief executive officer. “The F3’s are unconventionally extraordinary.”
Among the new attractions:
Ice at sea. NCL’s Ice Bar, which was inspired by “the original ice bars and ice hotels in Scandinavia.” If you do decide to go, you will be given “fur coats, gloves and hats to keep them warm, since the room’s temperature will not rise above 17 degrees Fahrenheit.” There will be a cover charge to enter.
Night life. Posh Beach Club is a “luxurious and exclusive outdoor entertainment complex styled with Mediterranean flare and combined with the sizzle of South Beach and the Riviera.” You can purchase a day or week pass.
Want jewelry with that martini? Halo, the Über Bar, is open to guests who stay at the Garden and Courtyard Villa. It “showcases the best of the best, from the best liquors around the world to the best art featured and available for purchase with jewelry-clad servers displaying the best jewelry onboard for purchase.”
Strike! Bliss Ultra Lounge and Nightclub. First featured on the Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Pearl, Bliss features “NCL’s signature bowling alley at sea as part of this all-day entertainment and nightclub complex with the feel of a decadent Las Vegas nightclub.” It’s a great spot for all-day bowling or just hanging out.
You can get a view of the new staterooms here.
The new F3 ships beg just one question: Where will they find all the cops necessary to patrol these floating adult playgrounds?

I think NCL may have done lunch with United and American. Not sure taking the al a carte business model to cruising is going to work too well!
All these new “features” seem nice, except they all seem to have an additional fee.
How about some reporting on new “features” that don’t cost extra?
I’ll make sure to bring several rolls of nickels and dimes if I go on an F3 cruise.
