New TripAdvisor fare search tool estimates fees

by Stephanus Surjaputra on February 27, 2009

TripAdvisor is introducing a metasearch flight tool which will do a side-by-side comparisons of fares offered by Expedia.com, Hotwire and Travelocity.

It will use ITA Software, Sabre, Amadeus, Expedia.com, Hotwire.com and Travelocity.com to search for fares.

Additionally, the site will also have Fees Estimator, which will allow users to compare the costs of for-fee a la carte services, such as checked bags, in-flight entertainment and meals.

TripAdvisor’s SeatGuru will also enable consumers to consider an aircraft’s seat dimensions, storage space, video screen viewability and in-flight amenities.

TripAdvisor is owned by Expedia, but Bryan Saltzburg, general manager of new initiatives, said that both Expedia and Travelocity will “play together.” He cites the “transparency of Fees Estimator and the joint participation of competitors Expedia.com and Travelocity.”

Sounds like this flight tool could be very useful. Any idea on the time table for implementing it?
