I'm wondering why we don't treat our domestic Electronic Travel Authority, or ETA, like Australia does their visa system. In fact, I kind of wonder why other western countries adopt (at least the idea of) Australia's ETA visa system. An Australian ETA is a simplified application to fill out, online or with a travel agent where you are approved instantly. Both the application process and the approval take a few seconds (minutes, hours, whatever) and you can get your ETA visa the same day you apply. Recently, I went through the fun process of obtaining a Russian visa and it took 2 weeks and over two hundred dollars. On a short note, what Charlie says in this article seems logical. I just think that when comparing apples to apples, Australian ETA systems are some of the easiest to work with in the world. That's my 2 cents.
