Lufthansa has been charging a $20 fee for the same service. I received this email:

While ticket receipts are included as part of a paper ticket booklet, electronic ticket receipts are issued at the airport upon check-in. If your ticket receipt has been misplaced and you require a copy for insurance, immigration, or business purposes, or if you need to confirm verification of travel for mileage accrual please complete the Affadavit and Ticket copy request form found on our website at http://www.lufthansa.com by choosing "Ticket Copy / Travel Verification" from the QuickLinks menu on the right-side of the homepage. Upon completion, the form may be faxed or mailed to Lufthansa Flight Verification as directed. Kindly note that there is a non-refundable processing fee of $20 associated with this service.

Hi, good to know about the united.com feature if it has printable receipts. The problem with credit card bills as midmom noted is that they often don't give information. In my clients case it just had a United charge with no explanation whatsover. Simple tickets are easy. Buying extra stuff from the airlines not so much. (upgrades, baggage, lounge passes) And yes, it's never a bad idea to travel with a printout in case they mess up or can't find your reservation. But people get busy...In most cases, they had a printout or receipt at one point, but lost it. And accounting departments generally want details for expense reports. ESPECIALLY nonprofits.

But shouldn't you have a (printout of your) passenger receipt and bring a copy to the airport just in case the computers messed up your reservation?

Several airlines charge for receipts. American comes to mind. My staff routinely tries to hunt down receipts for expense reports. But as John notes above, there are substitutes. The idea is to prove that *you* purchased the ticket and that *you* took the flight.

Unfortunately, some credit card statements don't itemize the ticket number or flight information.

The IRS accepts monthly credit card bills in place of individual receipts and has for quite some time now.

Thanks for the props, Janice! It is definitely a service that your full service agency can manage with relative ease.
