For me, Paris is not worth the train trip from the suburbs. Too many tourists. But Fontainebleu was worth visiting frequently......guess i'm just a small town person.
It's is nice, though, that the Paris department stores have the subways stopping at their lower level doors. And one can see the city from the rooftop restaurants....

Anyone traveling by train/subway needs to know not to stand by the doors. It's too easy for a thief to grab your purse and run just as the door starts to close. Buy a sac a dos and wear it against your chest, not on your back...... I sure feel more secure in the smaller towns and villages......

But I would still rather live in France than anyplace else......were I young enough and wealthy enough......

Too bad they won't go to the trouble of enforcing their relatively lax smoking laws and let people smoke where they shouldn't.

France is the place where someone tried to charge me 80 euros for a taxi ride that should be 27 euros.

France is where someone tried to steal my wallet.

France is where the internet in the hotel didn't work - and it hadn't worked since Monday...though I checked in on a Friday.

Interesting place, but a pain in the butt at the same time.
