While the fat lady at the check in counter has not begun her song, I know that the traveling public is getting ripped off left and right by ill informed airline employees who charge all sorts of fees for baggage now, even when they shouldn't be. For example, a woman I work with purchased her ticket in March, before the fees were announced and traveled in July. She had a purse, a computer bag and a roll on bag that she normally carries on. When she checked in at Boston she was charged $115.00 for her baggage even though she only checked the one bag. American maintains that there were extenuating circumstances but have yet to explain them.

Another example was I was checking in with a Skycap who tried to charge me $100.00 for two bags. The problem was I was traveling on Delta with a second person so we shouldn't have been charged anything however the Skycap was insistent that he had to charge us that. I went inside to check my bags in.

This is not the solution to the airlines problems, it is just creating more issues for them. If they need to cover the cost of operating, then raise the fare to a point that they can make money.
