I wonder if Gillibrand was embarrassed to be sitting next to him. I consider myself a democrat from NY, but I have never voted for him because he carries himself like a holier-than-thou pompous schmuck (which also refers to the male anatomy.)

As a FREQUENT FLYER, Senator Schumer knows the “rules”. He flies frequently between his home in NY and the Nation’s Capital.
The cabin door was OPEN. He questioned the rule with the F/A. The ISSUE was who was right?
My republican remark had a “smile” at the end of my comment, tongue in cheek, so to speak. Apparently you missed that.

Apparently Senator Schumer did not get the memo that as an elected leader and member of the subcommittee on Homeland Security he should be setting an example and not being one.

I’ve had the opportunity to met Senator Schumer and actually enjoy his company. He’s a tough New Yawker. Wants to keep updated if the plane is late, etc. And, he’s friendly and as most New Yorkers do, they speak their mind. I never felt that he was coming across as self-entitled and he’s always happy to engage in conservation.

The only bad judgement of this man, letting a REPUBLICAN hear his conservation with Senator Gillibrand. =)

As for the notion that Congress is the home of etiquette, well, that is one of those myths, like the Easter Bunny. And I don’t mean just Dick Cheney’s famous outburst either. If you read accounts of Congress and it’s actions during the Jackson era, you will find some very uncivil discourse going on. It continues to this day.

Yes, Senator Schumer was rude and inconsiderate but to be surprised by that is somewhat naive. Most of these people consider themselves to be removed from the common folk and well above the rules. Consider Jason Chaffetz and his altercation with the TSA, he wanted special treatment and when he didn’t get it, he tried to pull rank.

I also have to wonder about the statement by the FA telling him that he was keeping the entire plane waiting, even though the door was still open. If the door is open, one can be using one’s cell phone and if it was open, that plane wasn’t going anywhere.

Seems Chuckie (maybe resembling the demonic doll of movie fame a bit at this point) was told by a flight attendant to shut off his cellphone. And he declined! Even after she told him THE WHOLE PLANE was waiting for his call to end so they could begin take-off. Ever the rule-spouting lawmaker (he IS Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee), the Brooklyn pedagogue told the flight attendant he was ‘entitled to use the device until the cabin door was closed.’

The FAA regulation prohibits the use of cellphones onboard when the cabin door IS CLOSED!
Sounds to me the door was still OPEN and there was no waiting to leave the gate yet.
