That may have changed recently, but I've done it in the past (within the past 2 months)--purchased a trip for business, and then had the meeting cancelled later that day--they refund my trip without any hitches. And you do not have 24 hours to cancel your ticket with US Airways. You may hold the reservation for 24 hours (requiring a phone reservation and telephone booking fee!), but once you have paid, that's it, unless you decide to pay the $150 fee and change to the lower fare!
