Oh yeah - Janice - you're right about BA and it's rebooking policies. they have an opportunity to make themselves look like the good guys and they just show themselves, again, as not being as customer friendly as the might or ought to be.

It just makes me wonder - maybe Unite has a point? Or maybe Unite is as bad as BA, not interested in their customers best interests?

"Can you say potential “sickout?” Actually, this could be a good way for the union to save face. A Christmas strike is NOT in their best interests."

No, to us as outsiders, a Christmas strike is not in the unions best interests. They must have such animosity built up against BA that they just may not care. That is why I believe that there might be a strike anyway. It was BA that said the srike is off. Has Unite made any statements that they would abide by the court's injunction? We are advising potential passengers on BA that there is a possibility of a job action anyway.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8418805.stm

A strike by British Airways cabin crew planned for Christmas has been declared illegal in a High Court ruling.

The court agreed with BA that the cabin crew's union, Unite, had not correctly balloted its members on the strike action.

The injunction means that the 12-day strike cannot now go ahead.

The cabin staff have been completely manipulated into this mess by the Unite bosses. The decision by cabin staff to initiate an industrial action (strike) was made without knowledge from those submitting the ballot that the strike would be 12 days (instead of the usual 3) and that the strike would be over the Christmas period. This vague nature of the ballot question was to insure the greatest number of crew acceptance...but only after the results of the balloting was calculated did Unite bosses announce the duration and start date of the strike. These goofball bosses should be sacked.

The airline industry is better off with a financially healthy BA which allows for more options for the consumer and better conditions for the companies 48'000 worldwide employees (which are amongst the best paid in the sector). This strike is not in the best interest in either the short term or long term, of anyone (other than competitor airlines) and the Unite bosses must know this.

Maybe a more realistic ballot question should have been "Are you for industrial action which will surely run your employer into the ground, ruin any public good will and find yourself applying for entry level work with Ryanair?"

As of now, as the airline states on their site for travel agents. “The option outlined above to rebook is the only option available to customers.”

Labor disputes BREW for months to years. And, are very common within this industry. That said, as a Travel Agent, Janice, do you book your clients on carriers with labor disputes pending?
