I dunno, was the airplane EVER certified by JAA or FAA for 172 plus infants and crew? I thought the max evac load for an MD82 was 165 including crew . . .

Skip - no one has the right to be told their loved ones are missing when they are in the hospital or they walked away either.

While I understand and agree with the sentiment behind this article, I must disagree, with respect, with the conclusion of the author.

It's true that speculation of the type addressed here is counter-productive, but at the same time, it's important to remember that at times like this the families of the victims want accurate updates and they don't want to wait for it. Delaying announcements of the facts implies that someone wants to cover their ass from legal liability more than report on what happened.

The catch phrase "We can't comment during an ongoing investigation" is a cop-out, plain and simple. While some information will be sensitive, much of it isn't. We are the passengers and tax-payers who pay the fares and tax dollars that allow the airlines to operate. We are the geese laying golden eggs.

If we don't have a right to the truth (truth, not guessing/punting/sound bites) from the airlines, who does?
