15 most on-time airports in America

If you think “air travel” and “delay” are synonymous — and we can’t blame you if you do — here’s some good news. You aren’t guaranteed to be late at a handful of American airports.

Here’s a list of the most on-time airports in the United States. They’re ranked for the first five months of 2008.

Airport – On-time Percentage (Average on-time arrival and departures):

1. Honolulu (HNL) – 84.3
2. Kahului (OGG) – 84.2
3. Portland, Oregon (PDX) – 81.8
4. Salt Lake City (SLC) – 81.1
5. Albuquerque (ABQ) – 81.0
6. San Jose, Calif. (SJC) – 80.5
7. Phoenix (PHX) – 79.7
8. San Diego (SAN) – 79.4
9. Tampa (TPA) – 79.3
10. Baltimore-Washington (BWI) – 78.8
11. Orlando (MCO) – 78.2
12. Reagan National (DCA) – 78.5
13. Cincinnati (CVG) – 78.0
14. Charlotte-Douglas (CLT) – 77.72
15. Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) – 77.69

Favorable weather conditions and less congested routes allowed these airports to rise to the top of this list, according to Forbes Traveler, which compiled the list from government statistics and FlightStats.

With the cutbacks the legacy carriers are instituting, will this list change? Only time will tell.
