$10 holiday airfare surcharges expanded

You knew it was going to happen. Once the airlines found a new fee that didn’t cause a riot at the departure gates, they decided to expand the charge. I’m talking about the $10 holiday surcharge that was announced last week by the major airlines for three specific days — Sunday after Thanksgiving (November 29) and for January 2 and 3.

Now they have added more as “miscellaneous charges.” Passengers are paying more on 13 “special” days in the foreseeable future.

According to FareCompare.com here are the new “special” $10-extra days:

* November 29 – November 30, 2009
* December 19, 2009
* December 26 – December 27, 2009
* January 2 – January 3, 2010
* March 14, 2010
* March 20 – March 21, 2010
* March 28, 2010
* April 11, 2010
* May 28, 2010

    …and the March and April days are what?

    These correspond to the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Memorial Day holidays, as well as spring break travel periods.

    what, they missed the 4th of July, Valentines day, Mother and Fathers day, Columbus day, Labor day, and Veterans day? I’m SHOCKED!

    Why? they already charge extra for these days because of holidays. It should be built into the fare structure not as a surcharge. This is pure BS.

    The public relations consultants they hired told them how to avoid the riots at the gates. Quietly and sneakily roll out the fees without publicizing them, and make them small at first. Then gradually expand them, just as quietly and sneakily. It apparently isn’t enough for airlines to be treated like sheep, who are fleeced, sheared, and herded without bleating. Now they treat their customers like frogs, which can be boiled by gradually increasing the temperature so the frog doesn’t notice until it’s too late to jump out of the pot.

    Holiday surcharges: Yet another reason to “just say no.”

    But during holidays tickets already are probably twice more expensive then on regular days, that is point for airlines to make people angry with this fee?
