These days, no travelers can escape the stories about H1N1 flu. Even though so far, Swine Flu seems to be usually relatively mild, and hasn’t mutated. Yet.

Americans are a tough and stubborn people. Despite our love for shopping, we’re often frugal with money. Which means that when we feel sick before a trip, many of us have the inclination to “tough it out” and travel anyway. Especially if the trip uses scarce vacation time, or airline tickets that would be expensive to change.

We’re barely into back-to-school season and already the worrisome stories are circulating. A USA Today story recently estimated as many as half the U.S. may end up infected with H1N1 aka “swine” flu.

Travel insurance just took a new turn. Cruise lines are now screening passengers to see if they are healthy enough to travel (i.e. do they have flu-like symptoms). In some cases, it’s no longer only up to the passenger to cancel their cruise.
