On a flight to Los Angeles Ned Levi discovered loose used tissues in the seat pocket in front of him which was a real health hazard. It started Ned thinking about what else he’s found in airplane seat pockets after settling into his seat, and what airplane passengers can do about potential health hazards while flying.

A recent poll by TripAdvisor suggests 51 percent of air travelers say they’d rather fly while infected with the flu than pay a $150 airline change fee. A similar survey by msnbc.com found nearly 60 percent of travelers would fly infected instead of taking the hit to their pocketbook.

Last week an Air Canada passenger who had a note for a doctor certifying that she had H1N1 influenza (swine flu) refused to bend their flight change policies and a passenger felt she had no other option but fly home sick.
