With Southwest Airlines planning to fly to Boston Logan Airport in the fall, US Airways is trying to quash rumors that it plans on cutting flights by the end of the year. In a question-and-answer section of a corporate newsletter, an anonymous employee asked about the rumor and that the carrier “has a tendency to pull out of a market whenever Southwest decides to enter or expand.”

Las Vegas, once one of the favorite getaway for the masses yearning to make it rich, is suffering from an economic downturn, less disposable (gambleable) income and pending airline capacity cuts.

Continental Airlines has announced deep capacity cuts and personnel cuts for its airline operations. It is slashing 3,000 jobs, 67 aircraft and reducing capacity in the fourth quarter by 11 percent in what it calls a “crisis.” This is serious.
