The truth be told, technology has had a lot to do with the new ways that airlines can handle weather delays. Automatic telephone software, the ubiquity of cell phones. text messaging and automatic rescheduling software have changed the cancellation world of both passengers and the airlines.

During the holidays, I attempted to log into my Wyndham Rewards account to book a hotel stay and discovered my account had been closed and I had lost 5,500 points, 500 points short of a one-night stay.
I contacted Wyndham Rewards and was told that my account had been closed because there had been no activity for 18 months. I was surprised, not at the policy, but because I had never received written or electronic statements or notification of my expiration date.

American Airlines insists it had a handshake deal with the FAA to fix its MD-80 wiring problems over a 60-day period to keep from having to cancel flights. No way, says the FAA. Maintenance on hundreds of jets was “so sloppy” that it posed a safety risk, the agency claims.
