Minnesota residents Kristen and Joe Wegleitner just wanted to start their October honeymoon off in grand style with a romantic 7-day Mediterranean voyage on Celebrity Cruises. Unfortunately things began to unravel when bad weather and a hodgepodge of missed airline flight connections forced the newlyweds to scuttle their cruise plans. Thankfully the couple had the foresight to purchase travel insurance and thought the claims process with Travel Guard would be hassle free. Or so the Wegleitners thought.

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson has opened up a central rental car facility. Passengers can get to their rental car company from the main terminal via the sky train.

Under pressure to reduce its dominance in London airports, BAA has agreed to sell Gatwick airport for GBP1.51 billion pounds ($2.46 billion) “to a consortium involving Credit Suisse and General Electric.”

In an already slumping economy, Atlantic City Airport suffered a blow last year when Delta Air Lines discontinued service from and to Atlanta. That left Spirit Airlines as the only carrier, offering service between Atlantic City, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and several Florida destinations.

Most of us in the business remember the pleas being made by airlines to airports over the past five years to help them through their trying financial times. For the most part, airports did what they could to help airlines. Now, Delta is big and tough and not returning any favors.

On Monday we reported that Delta is ready to leave Atlanta if costs start to soar. Memphis is hoping that if that were to happen, Delta would expand its flights into and out of the Tennessee city.

Delta Air Lines, whose largest hub is in Atlanta, is warning the city that it may reduce its operations out of Hartsfield-Jackson because of rising costs. In a memo obtained by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Delta warns that because of a reduction in connecting traffic through Atlanta, it “could jeopardize billions of dollars in annual economic benefits and could translate into higher prices and service reductions for consumers who fly locally from Hartsfield-Jackson.”

A passenger accused of threatening to blow up a Delta Air Lines jetliner bound for Dublin, will remain in jail until a detention hearing Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
