It looks like a-la-carte pricing is here to stay with the airlines. Reservation technology is beginning to catch up with the airlines’ love of fees — fees for baggage, fees for meals, fees for reservations, fees for pets, fees for pillows, fees for blankets, fees for snacks, fees for drinks and more.

Plenty of things can go wrong with any airline trip. One of the easiest problems to avoid is a simple thing in making reservations: Give the airline or travel agent your exact name as on your driver’s license or passport.

According to Rich Seaney’s twittered advice, the best time to buy tickets is on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. He is seeing the biggest bargains of the season being announced at that time. Then, it’s first come first served.
