Why is it that if something bad happens it is all over the news...but something like this you never hear about?

It's usually covered by the networks and news, but because it's not as 'sensational' it tends to get buried and harder to find.

Check out your office: people are more likely to discuss why Sandy got fired vs. the fact that Joe bent over backwards and saved a major deal. While the deal /is/ talked about, it tends to fade away whilst Sandy's firing keeps people talking longer.

Dunno why that is..the way of the world, I suppose.

When I was writing for publication purposes the editor in charge of content told me that people will stop to read bad news but will ignore the "feel good" happy type stories. Her example was the tabloids where almost no content is of the "let's show humans at their best" type.

Unfortunately, her view was shared by most of the media outlets and, as far as I can tell, still is to this date. Tragedy sells, I guess. Sad, isn' t it?
