Las Vegas

Got home from Las Vegas last night. I had been there since last Wednesday. I have to say, I had an absolute blast while out there. I stayed at the Flamingo, and thanks to Susan Moore, a sales rep for Harrah's, I was in an upgraded Go room on the 25th floor with a beautiful view of the pool area and mountains. My friend that went with me had a deluxe room on the 14th floor, and to be honest, I kind of like the deluxe room better than the Go rooms.

Flew there and back on Delta, and the flights were great. The FA's even joked around a la Southwest on the Atlanta-Las Vegas flight. Returning yesterday, I had something happen that I've never had happen to me. On both flights, the flight crews were all male.

On Wednesday after I got there, I got to have lunch with Debbie Marshall. Had a great conversation, and able to catch up with a friend. On Thursday, I spent the day volunteering at the LGBT center, and helped them put together some material for their big annual fundraiser that is this coming Friday. On Friday, my friend arrived from PA, and that night we went over to the Rio to see the Show In The Sky. It was amazing. There is a stage show, and then the parade. After that, the world champion bartenders put on their show.

On Saturday, we went to Freemont St, and then out to a club to see all the Halloween costumes. Both were quite interesting! We went into the casino at the Four Queens, and my friend put in $5.00 to one of the quarter slots, and immediately won $35.00. He cashed out, and was happy because he can now say that he gambled in Vegas, and won!

I took advantage of the Harrah's Buffet of Buffet's promotion, where for Total Rewards members was $43.23 including tax, for a 24 hour pass to any of 7 buffets. I worked it out to where I could get in 4 meals in every 24 hours. I ate at the Flamingo, Ceasars, Rio and Paris. My most favorite was the buffet at Rio, and least favorite was Ceasars. Rio's buffet was quite extensive, and the one at Ceasars quite small.

Anyway, I had a great time, and can't wait to go back!

Vegas is a great weekend destination that I try to get to every 4 or 5 years or so. I'm overdue now and you whetted my appetite again!

John, how crazy was Halloween in Vegas? Any special activities along the strip for 10/31?

No special activities on the Strip, other than parties at the various nightclubs. LOTS of people in every kind of costume you can imagine, though. The city did hold it's first ever Halloween parade on Sunday, in the Garden District. I didn't go, but from what I heard, it was lots of fun.

Rick, I highly recommend the buffet program. Tell them that if they do use it, to expect long lines at The Village Buffet at Paris. The rest of them, the lines were normal. I worked it out that I saved about $20-$25 per day on food, and since I was there 5 days, that was a $100 savings.

Glad you had a great time. Next time you're all there on a Monday (and some other day--I can't remember when). Go to the Fremont. Their seafood buffet is awesome. It's better than the Rio's.

I sure wish Caesar's had their trick or tweet this year. I would've gone again.

I hope you really come back soon because there are still so many things to see and so many places to visit... As you saw Vegas isn't just gamble and stuff.. Its the whole package thats makes this city so unique
