So now my honeymoon planning has taken a complete 180 and I'm back to planning for France. Someone suggested going to Nice as there is a lot to do and see. I've heard Monte Carlo and Italy are only about 20 miles away; Paris is a 2-hour train ride (expensive??) and Switzerland is fairly close as well. All of these spots sound very attractive to us. I want Europe, she wants sun and beach. We will go in mid to late May of next year for 12 or 13 days.
Somebody suggested getting the Michelin Red guide and not making definite reservations anywhere - just drive until something looks good and stay the night. We're not looking for cheap alternatives, like hostels either.
I would love to know your strategy for traveling in Europe. Do you stay in one spot and take day trips? Is Nice a good location for day trips? What is the Mediterranean really like in May (hot/cold)? How would you rate the beaches in France? How are Americans treated?
