Favorite NYC Restaurant before going to the Met
If you're in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Opera in Manhattan, and you want a really great place to eat with excellent food and a pleasant atmosphere, try Café des Artistes, one of my NYC favorites. It's "French Dining" very well done. The service is excellent.
It's open Monday through Friday for Dinner, and Saturday and Sunday for Brunch through Dinner.
We eat there for a sumptuous brunch at least every other month, and dinner several times a year.
For brunch I would make a strong case to start with either their Cream of Broccoli Soup, or Salmon Four Ways (smoked, poached, rillettes, tartare) followed by the Crisp Confit of Duckling with mixed greens and Lyonnaise potatoes for the main course.
If you go, try to eat in the front room among the magnificent bouquets of flowers and the Howard Chandler Christy murals.
If you watch "Top Chef" on Bravo TV on cable, Joey, the Executive Chef from the Café, was one of the contestants.
