Virgin America Starts Selling Tickets for August 8 First Flight

The carriers first routes: San Francisco-New York John F. Kennedy and San Francisco-Los Angeles International.

San Francisco-based Virgin America will add Washington Dulles and Las Vegas to its network over the next three months. Using a fleet of Airbus A320s, the carrier expects to be serving up to 10 U.S. destinations within a year, and 30 within five years. The Aug. 8 launch date is contingent on the carrier getting final Federal Aviation Administration certification to begin flying.

I say, "bring it on." It's nice to see a new start-up airline that doesn't have a no-frills operation as their primary focus. There's nothing wrong with keeping the bloated majors on their toes.

I think that perhaps Jet Blue may have the most to worry about. Virgin America seems to be most emulating their operational style.

any idea if they'll be in the GDS and participate like Virgin Blue? I see their code is VX.
